The addition amount of the inoculant

2025-05-12

During the casting process, a certain amount of inoculant is usually added to the molten iron before pouring to improve the casting performance. How to calculate the amount of inoculant added in this process.

    1. Ductile iron usually contains more inoculant than gray cast iron.

    1. If the molten iron pouring time after inoculation is long, the amount of inoculant should be increased due to the reduction of the amount of inoculant.

    1. Thin-walled castings are prone to produce residues, and the amount of inoculant should be increased accordingly.

    1. When there is a large amount of slag in the molten iron, once the inoculant comes into contact with the slag, it will be wrapped and difficult to melt, so the amount added will also increase accordingly.

    1. Too much inoculant will result in too much slag, the temperature of the molten iron will decrease, and the eutectic will shrink. If the size of the inoculant is too large, the molten iron cannot be inoculated evenly, and the undissolved inoculant will enter the cavity. If the size is too small, it is easy to be oxidized to produce slag, which is easy to breed decay.

    1. The inoculant used in the cyclic inoculation method is smaller, generally 0.2-0.8mm, with an additional 0.05%-0.2%; the internal inoculation method generally requires a block size of 0.25mm and an addition amount of 0.1%.

At the same time, it is reminded that different manufacturers, different furnace types, and different inoculant products have different dosages. For specific situations, the dosage of the inoculant should also be analyzed and adjusted.

    inoculant

Casting inoculants can be divided into many types and play an important role in the casting industry. Usually, casting inoculants include ferrosilicon inoculants, silicon-barium inoculants, flow-through inoculants, and silicon-barium-calcium inoculants. In casting production, the use of inoculants to improve the quality of castings is currently a common method, but many people are not particularly clear about the use of inoculants in castings. If they do not understand the inoculant well enough, a little carelessness will cause irreparable losses.

At present, there are generally two sources of inoculants with good actual application effects on the market: one is graphite electric cutting materials, and the other is petroleum coke products that have been graphitized above 3000 degrees. Different types of cast iron can be cast with different specifications of inoculants as needed. Inoculants are a large number of metallurgical materials selected by major foundries.

For the foundry industry, inoculants are indispensable auxiliary materials in the product production process. However, the addition of inoculants is very particular. Random addition cannot make the inoculant achieve the ideal effect, so it is also important to master the addition method of the inoculant.
